FTL travel...

Greg's post (here) on his blog got me thinking: why is it that there has to be a limit to how fast one can travel? When I read the article linked to, it was apparent that some scientists fall under the "impossible until proven" camp, espousing the Theory of Relativity. I say bullpucky. I firmly believe that examples given for relativity, such as the sound and sight of a speeding train are meer human perception issues. These sensory perceptions of time and distance are a human's means of ranging. They do not portend a limit to the speed at which one should be able to travel.

Also, imagine the astonishment the world would be in if such an engine is created and succesfully tested. I can imagine sending a craft like Voyager out first to record the test engine's arrival and departure at, say, Martian orbit.
